“Child?”
“Sir?” Bell smiled to him, for him, as she cleaned off the
sweat glistening on his face.
“Do you have a mother?”
She felt her blonde brow knit as she tensed her forehead.
From the look on Renial’s face she was showing how much she missed and worried
for her mother. “Yes sir,” she said as she rinsed the cloth and gave his
features another wash over, he had never asked such a question before, their
conversations usually consisted of information about the house and his
treatment.
“Where is she?”
“She travels sir. I don’t know where she goes.” Little
titbits of information passed between them regularly, she had never been guided
to not talk freely with him, maybe her father trusted her to know what was
unsafe to impart. Thinking about her nature of speech Bell realised it wasn’t
unusual for her not to give lengthy details. She never knew how much
information was too much, how much speech flowing through her lips was
unwarranted.
“How long does she stay away?”
“A long time sir,” too long came to her mind which she
would never say to anyone else. An unfair observation or even petulant.
“Child.”
Oh dear, she had allowed her mind to wander away from her
surroundings and her company. “I’m sorry sir, I didn’t," no excuses, just an
apology for her inattentiveness, “I’m sorry sir.”
“Don’t apologise child,
your mother is important to you. You don’t have to say you’re sorry for
thinking of her,”Shekinah, mother of Bell, wife to Phoenix (Praesa of Frellick). Found in Enfractu.
